Introduction

The Media Resources Collection of the Run Run Shaw Library consists of audio, video, microform, multimedia CD-ROM/DVD-ROM and computer file materials available for use by all City University staff and students. The Library also provides users with various audiovisual equipment and machines to facilitate the use of Library media resources.

  1. OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue): provides detailed information on the media resources collection.
  2. Lists for selected types of media resources are also available on the Library web site at http://www.cityu.edu.hk/lib/collect/mr/index.htm.

Loan Periods and Loan Quotas

All media resources, except those checked out, are for use only at the media resources workstations outside the Media Resources Collection Room of the Library.

All loans are on a first-come-first-served basis. All loans are not renewable.

Academic / Administrative Equivalent Staff, Research staff, Demonstrators, Council Members and Departmental Advisory Committees Members 10 items 7 days
Staff other than Category 1 5 items 7 days
Students - Main Campus/Telford/CCCU/Elder Academy 2 items 3 days
Others - SCOPE Students, SCOPE Associate Staff with Smartcard, Alumni Library Ticket Borrowers, Friends of the Library Borrowers, Spouses of CityU Staff Members, Long-serving Staff Members and their spouses, JULAC Library Card Holders, Other Borrower's Ticket Holders 1 item In-house use

Interactive videos, computer software and microforms are normally for use in the Library only.

Reservation for Class Use

In order to facilitate the use of library media resources in classes, special requests to reserve these materials to be used in the class may be made preferably two weeks before the class by academic staff by sending e-mail to lbmrit@cityu.edu.hk.

Loan Procedures

All loans are made upon presentation of valid City University ID cards.

For DVDs, VCDs, CDs, CD/DVD-ROMs and kits that are kept in the Media Resources Collection Room, users can fetch the item(s) from the shelves and check out with the automatic checkout machines by themselves in the Room. For videocassettes, audio cassettes, laser discs, slides, microforms and other media resources that are kept in the Shatin Branch Library, users can request them online and check out at the Circulation Counter after receiving the pickup notice.

Returns

DVDs, VCDs, CDs, CD/DVD-ROMs and kits borrowed from the Media Resources Collection Room should be returned to the automatic return unit called EasyReturn located near the Media PCs outside the Collection Room. Media resources borrowed from the Circulation Counter should be returned to the Circulation Counter.

Loaned items should be returned in good condition on or before the due dates/times. Please do not return the media resources in the library bookdrops.

Recommendations

The Multimedia Services Section welcomes recommendations of media resources. Trade catalogues are available for selection purpose. Please contact the Multimedia Services Section for using the trade catalogues.

Recommendation of expensive media resources (costs at or exceeding US$420) requires the endorsement of the Head of Department of the recommender and the approval of the Librarian.

Recommendation forms are available from the Circulation Counter upon request.

Overdue Fines

Normal Media Resources Loans:
HK$5 per item per calendar day

Media Reserved Loans:
5-Hour Loan: 1 - 12 hours HK$2 per item per hour or part of an hour after the expiry time;
  13 - 24 hours HK$4 per item per hour or part of an hour after the expiry time.
  Library closing hours will also be counted as overdue period.
1-Day Loan: First Day Overdue HK$24
  Second Day Overdue HK$48

Loss and Damage

Users are responsible for any loss or damage of media resources and equipment while on loan to them. Replacement cost for the lost or damaged items plus processing cost will be charged to the users involved.

Users are reminded that unauthorized copying in any way of any materials (whether print or otherwise) which is subject to copyright is not allowed. They are hereby warned that they are fully responsible for legal consequences concerning copyright that may arise.
