FAQ - Access to Collections and Services
Who may use the CityU Library?
- Students and staff of the CityU, CityU alumni who hold valid Alumni
Library Tickets, Joint University
Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) Card holders, Friends of the
Library Card holders, spouses of full-time staff members as well as
other persons approved by the Librarian for a specified period or purpose.

I am not affiliated with the CityU, can I come
in to use the Library?
You may choose the methods below.
Friends of the Library Card
- To foster the Library's contacts with those who are interested in
our collection, current activities, future development and to help imbue
a reading and learning habit in the general public, Friends of the Library
Card will be issued to different sectors of the society.
- Various types of membership are open for application. Membership fee
is levied on an annual basis.
- Benefits for Members of the Friends of the Library include: free access
to the Library, borrowing privileges for some membership types (individual:
10 items for 30 days; corporate: 20 items for 30 days for corporate
with 10 or less employees; 40 items for 30 days for corporate with more
than 10 employees), use of various services and resources within the
Library, free Library Newsletter through email, invitation to special programmes
and functions organized by the Library.

Reader's Ticket
- CityU visiting scholars recommended by Heads of Departments of the
University can apply for a Reader's Ticket.
- Overseas students who come back to Hong Kong to do research during
the months of June to August may also apply for a Reader's
Ticket. A recommendation letter from the home university abroad, a
valid student ID card, and a photo should accompany the application.
- Readers' Tickets are valid for a period of 3 months and are used for
reading purpose within the Library only.
N.B. For non-CityU members who are holding the Borrower's
Ticket, if you wish to continue to use the Library, please apply for a
Friends of the Library Card when your Borrower's Ticket expires.
I am a graduate of the CityU, can I use the Library?
Yes, the Library has provided a series of Alumni Library Services for you to choose.
