胡佛院士 (Academician Hu Fu)

 

胡佛,浙江杭州人,寄籍江蘇揚州,一九四九年赴台。台大法律系畢業,美國愛摩瑞大學政治學碩士,臺灣大學榮譽社會科學博士。一九六一年起任教於台大政治系,並曾任美國耶魯大學、芝加哥大學、哥倫比亞大學訪問學者。中央研究院院士、中國社會科學院名譽高級研究員、臺灣大學政治學系名譽。

 

胡院士先治憲法學,對中華民國憲法、美國憲法判例法、司法行為學著力甚深;後專攻政治行為學,對政治文化、政治參與、以及政治體系變遷,發展了一系列原創性的理論架構,並開風氣之先,篳路藍縷推動經驗性政治行為研究,為臺灣政治變遷及大規模「跨國性政治行為」研究奠定了基礎,學術成果深受國際推崇。此外,胡院士還參與創辦《思與言》雜誌及澄社,推動臺灣學術界人文精神與治學規範的提升,並著有數百篇政論散見於各大報章雜誌,為維護自由與人權、落實民主憲政。

 

胡院士以國家興亡為己任,擇善固執又恬淡自守;近年尤憂心於兩岸關係發展之瓶頸。胡院士在研究之餘喜愛以書法怡情。

 

Professor Hu Fu, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Political Science, National Taiwan University, received his law degree from the National Taiwan University and M. A. in political science from Emory University. He has visited Yale University, University of Chicago, and Columbia University as a research fellow or a visiting scholar. He has taught at National Taiwan University since 1961. He was named the first Chen-Tong Lien Chair Professor in law and political science in 1991 and the first University Chair Professor in 1998.

 

Professor Hu was elected as an academician of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan in 1998 and awarded as National Chair by the Ministry of Education, in 1999 for his outstanding scholarship.

 

As a pioneering scholar who promoted and engaged in the empirical study of politics, Professor Hu’s research interests focus on political systems and behavior, political culture, political participation, electoral behavior, democratization, and the development of constitutionalism. He has authored and co-authored thirteen books in Chinese including the 《中華民國監察院之研究》 (Control Yuan of the Republic of China); 《政治文化與政治生活》(Political Culture and Political Life;《政治參與與選舉行為》(Political Participation and Electoral Behavior) and 《政治變遷與民主化》(Political Change and Democratization). He is co-director of the project The Comparative Study of Democratization and Value Changes in East Asia and co-convener of the East Asian Barometer Conference.
