Abstract
With their extreme demands, nanocomposite hard/superhard coatings are the high-end coatings in the field of wear resistance applications. The development of next generation superhard coatings should base on appropriate material design to achieve better combined properties. The existing coating techniques, either PVD or CVD, both have their own disadvantages. Only a few foreign manufacturers can produce nanocomposite coatings by arc technology. They have limitations in applications and the investment of equipment is huge. In this project, new nanocomposite hard coatings are prepared in a cost-effective prototype reactor for industrial uses.
