About

In December, 2014, City University of Hong Kong successfully launched the first workshop themed with High-Resolution Imaging Technology for the Preservation of Cultural Artifact. By inviting professors from Kyoto University (Japan) and experts in media demonstration from City University of Hong Kong, the workshop mainly elaborates on the digitization and digital restoration of ancient documents, facsimiles, and printing of classics from diverse aspects. The first workshop was a huge success, providing brand new information for libraries in outstanding universities. In the known field of digitization, the workshop enlightens on how to develop more deeply; in the unknown field of multimedia reappearance, the workshop amazes and inspires us.

Due to the scale and place of the first workshop, the number of universities involved is relatively small. Meanwhile, breakthrough takes place in the technology of scanning, restoration and reappearance of ancient collections. Therefore, a second workshop is proposed, themed as High-Resolution Imaging Technology for the Preservation of Cultural Artifacts in Libraries -- Cultural Heritage and Academic Sharing. This workshop will invite the team of Professor Ari Ide-Ektessabi from Kyoto University (Japan) to talk about the technology of high-precision scanning and traditional reappearance and specific applications. Meanwhile, the RTI scanning technology used in discovering new sources will be introduced by Zhejiang University Library. Also, numerous museums and libraries and experts in producing ancient collections are invited to present topics related to preservation, restoration, and reappearance of East Asian literature in their own areas.
