Project

How Much Can a Donkey Carry? A Biomechanical and Physiological Assessment of Load-Carrying Capacity in Working Donkeys

Duties

The project will involve data collection using inertial sensors, high speed cameras and pressure mats. Data collection will predominantly be abroad, including but not limited to the UK, Portugal and Pakistan. The appointee will assist with equine biomechanical studies in association with international working equid charities. Duties include data collection and analysis, project planning and preparation of manuscripts for publication.

Requirements

A Master’s degree in Biomechanics/Biology/Equine Science or related disciplines with no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University. Experience of handling a wide variety of equines is essential. Willingness to travel internationally in potentially challenging conditions; experience of complex data analysis and preparing manuscripts; excellent organizational skills and ability to work flexibly; and proficiency in written and spoken English are required. Experience of biomechanical research techniques and coding in Matlab, R, Python is highly desirable.

Candidates with a PhD and no more than 3 years’ experience after the award of a PhD degree may be considered for appointment as Postdoc.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
