Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Linguistics and Translation (Appointment for 12 months) [Ref. C/R/105/09]



  1. Towards Automatic Translation between Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese
  2. Natural Language Processing for Pedagogical Purposes
  3. Mobile Learning for Students of English as a Foreign Language

The Projects aim to develop a mobile app that performs automatic translation between Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, and supports learning of Chinese as a foreign language.


Implement a high-quality translation engine that can be accessed through a user-friendly mobile app.  The post is tenable as soon as possible.


A Master’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or related disciplines with 1 year’s post-qualification working experience.  Solid experience in mobile technology on Android is required.  Background in database and Natural Language Processing would be an advantage.
