Postdoc in the School of Law (Appointment for 12 months with possibility of extension commencing from December 2020) [Ref. B/R/900/09]

 

The School of Law at City University of Hong Kong invites applications for a full-time appointment as Postdoc working on a research project funded by the Research Grants Council (RGC).  In the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Law Rankings, the School of Law ranked 25th in the world.

Project

Anatomy of Hong Kong’s International Trade Law: Logic and Consequences of Unilateralism, Bilateralism, and Multilateralism


Duties

The appointee will work in close collaboration with and under the supervision of Professor Julien CHAISSE, School of Law.  S/he will primarily work on the above project that conceptualizes and investigates the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)’s international trade law and policy as a triangular structure (which composed of unilateral, bilateral, and multilateral rules).  The research examines how the legal order of the HKSAR shapes its international behavior, and the impact of the triangular approach on domestic laws and policies.  The duties of the appointee include assisting in the collection and evaluation of secondary literature, conducting qualitative research, analysing data and supporting the drafting of academic scholarship.

Requirements

A PhD degree in law with demonstrated interest and experience in international economic law, and with no more than 3 years’ experience after the award of a PhD degree.  Expertise in issues relating to HKSAR law, WTO, international investment law, and international dispute settlement is preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.  The appointee must be in residence at City University of Hong Kong throughout the term of his or her appointment.
