Research Assistant (2 posts) in the Department of Chemistry (Appointment for 24 months with possibility of extension) [Ref. A/R/1048/09]

 

Project

Developing Sustainable Organic Fertilizers for Crop Yield Maximization in Outdoor and Indoor Plant Factories

Duties

Set up the indoor farming system for experiments (including vertical farming racks with grow bed, nutrient solution circulation system and LED lighting system); initialize the farming system with various high-value vegetables; optimize the operation parameters of the farming racks (including the use of commercially available nutrients and wavelength of the LED lighting system); design a new nutrient solution formula with all the essential elements needed for plant growth; study the effect of the new nutrient solution on the growth of the vegetables; analyse the chemical composition of the new nutrient solution via various analytical techniques; and compare the growing efficiency between the finalized organic nutrient and the inorganic nutrient available in the market.

Requirements

A Master’s degree in Science or related disciplines, with experience in chemical analysis (of which at least 2 years’ experience in outdoor/indoor farming) and no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University. 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
