The appointee will work on the above externally funded Projects. Project (1) involves the study of the experience and impact of rapid urbanisation in China, with the process of migration to and adaptation in cities, and the everyday life of the urban residents of these fast changing places; Project (2) involves the study of the impact of new patterns of mobility on the role of neighbourhood with regard to social identity and social networks. The appointee will also participate in the general intellectual activities of the Urban Research Group.

A recent PhD in Urban Sociology/Urban Geography/Urban Studies or related disciplines with no more than 3 years’ postdoctoral experience. Proficiency in English and Chinese is required. Knowledge of Chinese urbanization issues and GIS applications as well as experience in social survey methodology are preferred.
