Scientific Officer (Multiple Veterinary Species) (2 posts) in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences [Ref. C/645/09]

 

The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) has established a six-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) Programme in Hong Kong and has provisional accreditation with the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, and is on track for full accreditation with graduation of the first BVM cohort in 2023. This young, vibrant veterinary school has its mission to be one of the top 20 veterinary schools internationally within 20 years.  We are looking for competent, enthusiastic veterinary clinicians with a passion for teaching evidence-based veterinary medicine and clinical skills to the next generation of veterinarians, to join our team.

Duties

The professional veterinary Scientific Officers will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate veterinary students with a focus on clinical skills training, clinical laboratories and clinical rotations.  Duties include to:

  1. Teach, support and assess undergraduate students’ veterinary clinical skills in tutorials, field trips, practical classes and other training activities;
  2. Tutor problem-based learning courses in the BVM curriculum;
  3. Provide clinical veterinary services in one or more veterinary species as required to support JCC BVM students during clinical placements;
  4. Assist with the development and implementation of course-based materials and resources;
  5. Provide administrative support to academic faculty for teaching and learning such as managing course content on the JCC’s online learning platform and assessment activities; and
  6. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine registerable in the Veterinary Surgeon’s Board of Hong Kong with a valid Practicing Certificate and not less than 5 years’ working experience in a veterinary clinical environment are required.  Experience as a clinical veterinarian is essential.

The ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin is desirable but not essential. Additional qualifications or experience in veterinary education would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
