Senior Technical Officer (Fire Services) in the Campus Development Office [Ref. C/494/09]


Duties

Oversee the operation, upgrading, repair and maintenance of all fire services and interfacing systems (including builder’s works) in campus buildings, staff quarters, student hostels and off-campus areas.  Main duties include to:

  1. Ensure fire service installation in full compliance with statutory requirements and in a continuous ready state;
  2. Prepare specifications for the procurement of maintenance and alteration works;
  3. Coordinate and supervise contractor’s works according contract requirements;
  4. Supervise in-house staff for minor maintenance, repair and inspection works;
  5. Assist in the coordination of fire drills and provision of technical training;
  6. Attend to emergency calls; and
  7. Perform any other assignments.


The appointee is required to work on shift and perform on-call duties.

Requirements

A good honours degree/Higher Diploma/Higher Certificate/Diploma in Fire Services/Building Services/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering or related disciplines, a registered electrical worker (Grade A), with a valid safety training course certificate (commonly known as “Green Card”) or equivalent issued by organisations recognised by the Commissioner for Labour, and at least 7 years’ hands-on experience in operation, maintenance or project works related to fire services.  Proficiency in MS Office applications (including Word and Excel) and AutoCAD; good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; strong sense of risk awareness and responsibility; commitment to teamwork; good interpersonal skills; being self-motivated; capability to supervise in-house and out-sourced works; and ability to work independently under pressure against tight schedules are required.  Candidates with good knowledge of design and operation of fire service installations and systems in compliance with statutory regulations (e.g. FSD, BD) and substantial fire service experience in education institutions are preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
