Technical Officer in the Department of Chemistry [Ref. A/388/09]

 

Duties

  1. Provide technical support for teaching in Molecular Biology or other Chemistry-related courses (including preparation of materials and supervising students on the use of equipment);
  2. Manage and maintain departmental laboratories, function rooms and laboratory equipment;
  3. Carry out safety patrol and checking for laboratories;
  4. Provide infrastructural support for research activities;
  5. Carry out general laboratory duties; and
  6. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Irregular working hours may be required.

Requirements

  1. A good honours degree in Chemistry/Biological Chemistry with at least 2 years’ laboratory experience;
  2. Techniques in gene expression, bacterial/cell culture, animal cell assay, nucleic acids and protein purification/manipulation, bio-imaging and western blots;
  3. Experience in the operation, maintenance and servicing of laboratory instrument (e.g. phosphorimager, Gel imager, nanodrop, MiliQ water purifier, PCR systems, luminometer, ultracentrifuge, MALDI-TOF MS); and
  4. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
