Building Services Inspector I/II in the Campus Development Office [Ref. A/384/09]

 

Duties

Perform site management to ensure works completion according to stipulated schedule and compliance with contractual requirements; supervise contractors to comply with statutory technical (particularly safety) requirements and University house rules; carry out site inspections, record site activities, monitor progress, check findings against specifications and drawings, report and issue site memoranda on defects and deviations, and ensure proper rectification; provide advice on good construction practice and alternative proposals; coordinate and attend meetings with government authorities, consultants, contractors, users and in-house units; check drawings; ensure record drawings, O&M manuals conform to as-built work; and perform any other assignments as assigned.

Irregular working hours (including night duties) may be required.

Requirements

A good honours degree/Higher Diploma/Certificate in Building Services/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related disciplines, with a valid safety training course certificate (commonly known as “Green Card”), and at least 7 years’ relevant experience in Hong Kong on large-scale high quality institutional building projects (including residential projects).  Knowledge of building services installation, site practice, testing and commissioning procedures; strong initiative; ability to work independently under minimum supervision; good sense of responsibility and team work; good communication and interpersonal skills; capability to manage all resources effectively; and willingness to learn and eagerness for continuous improvement are required. General knowledge of builder’s works, with ability to handle and coordinate site builder’s items is preferred.

Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Building Services Inspector II.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
