Technical Officer in the Department of Electronic Engineering [Ref. A/242/09]

 

Duties

  1. Provide IT support, training and assistance to students and staff;
  2. Assist in laboratory teaching activities as well as experiment design and implementation;
  3. Responsible for network and server administration;
  4. Develop in-house support applications for teaching, research and administration;
  5. Manage and provide support and services on computer systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Wireless, VMware, and Firewall platforms);
  6. Develop and maintain departmental website;
  7. Manage daily operations and administration of laboratories; responsible for procurement and maintenance of equipment, inventory, and safety control; and
  8. Perform any other duties as assigned.

 

Shift duties and/or work on Sundays and gazetted General Holidays may be required.



Requirements

A good honours degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Information Technology or related disciplines, with substantial experience and appropriate sophisticated skills.  Good analytical, administration and communication skills; good command of Java, C/C++, Python, SQL, Web programming, CSS, Shell Scripts, PHP or other programming languages; solid experience in and good skills of various operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Mac OS X), TCP/IP network programming, and VLAN/VPN/Firewall management; and ability to work independently and in a team are required.  Working experience in computer engineering/ information technology; and possession of membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g. SCJP, OCP, MCP) are preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
