The School of Energy and Environment was established at City University of Hong Kong in July 2009 with the mission to perform cutting-edge research and provide professional education in energy- and environment-related issues. It is the first and only such School in Hong Kong and one of the few in Asia. The School has experienced tremendous growth over its eight years. The School is currently seeking outstanding candidates in science/engineering to fill openings in:
1. Energy efficiency in built environment
Specific related areas include smart buildings, microgrids, storage and indoor environment.
2. Waste and energy
Specific areas include conversion approaches to e-waste, construction waste, pharmaceutical waste, cellulosic and other waste streams, biorefinery (biological and syngas platforms), green chemistry, downstream recovery of metals and other high-value components, and high throughput screening and separation techniques.
3. Coastal aquatic environment
Specific areas include water chemistry, water resources and coastal water management. Research involving field observation, laboratory experimentation and/or theoretical modelling is welcome.
For area (3), the School collaborates with the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution (http://www6.cityu.edu.hk/sklmp/sklmp_en/index.asp) to pursue interdisciplinary water related research; candidates should be able to complement existing expertise both within and outside of the School.
Teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise research students at master and doctoral levels, conduct high-level research, develop new research directions and courses when necessary, and contribute creatively and professionally in the School, and for the benefit of the community and industry. The appointees will also be assigned to take up administrative duties to facilitate the development of the activities of the School.
A PhD in a closely-related discipline with a strong research record in terms of grants, publications and patents, and good teaching ability. Candidates for Associate Professor should have a number of high-impact publications and grants, and a demonstrated ability/potential to develop a research area on their own. Candidates for Professor should have outstanding research and international reputation.
