The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health was established in July 2017.  Its mission is to achieve and sustain excellence in teaching and research through advancing the understanding of the interconnectivity of animal and human health.  The Department is well positioned to provide a strong link between the preclinical veterinary sciences and applied (clinical) veterinary medicine.  In another dimension it focuses on One Health, an area spanning the health of animals, humans and the environment.  The Department plays a key role in teaching students in the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and providing postgraduate research training.  Departmental academic staff members undertake teaching and research across their areas of specialty, and are actively engaged in enhancing the profile and effectiveness of veterinary training, public health and applied research through partnership and strengthening links with industry, business, commerce and other institutions locally and internationally.

Duties

Plan and establish world-class teaching and research facilities, teach and manage undergraduate and postgraduate courses, develop new research directions and maintain robust research programmes, and carry out administrative work and any other duties to facilitate the development of the Department and the College as a whole.

The appointee is also expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the professional veterinary curriculum in the area of Comparative Anatomy, modelled on the integrated “Animal Body” construct as delivered by our partner, Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

A PhD in relevant disciplines (Comparative Anatomy/Histology/Embryology/Zoology/Vertebrate Morphology/Animal Science/Veterinary Medicine) or equivalent. A veterinary degree registrable in Hong Kong preferred, but not essential.  Applicants must have demonstrable evidence of research success (including publishing influential works and obtaining external research funding).  Candidates with background in the field of Comparative Anatomy are particularly encouraged to apply.
