Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences
In 2017, CityU strategically integrated the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Sciences to establish the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (the “JCC”).  The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health and the Department of Neuroscience were established in JCC in July 2017 and July 2019 respectively.   JCC provides an expanded platform to enhance collaboration between the disciplines of life sciences and veterinary medicine to pursue excellence and innovation for the benefit of society, particularly in the prevention of infectious diseases, and the development of veterinary and human diagnostics and therapeutics for improving quality of life.

CityU is the first University in the region to offer a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). The 6-year BVM degree comprises 2 years of preclinical teaching, followed by veterinary clinical and professional training in years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum of our international partner, the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, provides the template for CityU’s BVM curriculum. The BVM curriculum adheres to the requirements of international accreditation bodies, specifically, the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc (AVBC) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

JCC offers world-class veterinary and biomedical education, advanced training, cutting-edge research in biomedical and veterinary sciences, and first-rate veterinary services under the “One Health” concept. The latter recognizes the interconnectedness of human and animal health. It will enable Hong Kong and the region to improve the management and prevention of existing and new diseases originating from animals, thereby protecting health and wealth.

JCC will create new growth points for our society and new career paths for our young people by expanding opportunities for Hong Kong’s professional services to extend beyond the confines of the local community to take advantage of China’s fast-growing industries and knowledge transfer opportunities. It will enable CityU to become an international public health hub with significant local and regional impact.

Duties

The appointees will actively contribute to the missions of Clinical Sciences team to train highly professional veterinary clinicians, to advance animal health through cutting-edge clinical research and to engage with and support the local community.  The appointees will provide clinical teaching in the context of their clinical diagnostic service.  They will help students integrate and apply knowledge, skills and professional attitudes; provide clinical service; and take up administrative work and other duties to facilitate the development of the College and its Departments as a whole.  Active involvement in research is expected.

Requirements

The appointees shall possess a veterinary qualification recognized for registration as a veterinary surgeon in Hong Kong with degrees in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), or equivalents in all appointments. Board certificate (European, Australian/New Zealand, American, or equivalent Boards) in relevant disciplines is required for appointment at Clinical Associate Professor level or above.  For Clinical Assistant Professor, credentials for Board certificate should be completed or near completion.  Experience in clinical teaching, service and research training is required. A PhD is preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
