Medical Laboratory Technologist (at the rank of Technical Officer) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences [Ref. E/262/09]

Duties

Responsible for the operation of departmental teaching laboratories, function rooms and other laboratory facilities.  Main duties include the following:

  1. Assist in teaching practicals in the areas of biomedical sciences/medical laboratory technology;
  2. Assist in management of the core and teaching facilities;
  3. Enforce safety in the teaching laboratories;
  4. Operate and maintain instruments and equipment;
  5. Monitor stock keeping and inventory of teaching materials; and
  6. Perform any other assignments as instructed.


Shift duty and working on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays may be required.


Requirements

A Master’s degree/good honours degree in Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines, with 1/2 years’ working experience in university teaching, research or clinical/medical laboratory.  Familiarity with histopathology, cytology, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology and/or hematology is required.  Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) Board registration is preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
