Technical Officer in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health [Ref. E/253/09]


Duties

  1. Provide technical support to the animal health educational programmes;
  2. Maintain animals as required (including marine and freshwater species of commercial importance);
  3. Prepare practical classes (including laboratory exercises and field trips);
  4. Maintain records of animals and practical classes, and compile data summaries;
  5. Maintain high standards of animal welfare, occupational health and safety; and
  6. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Shift duty and working on Sundays and public holidays may be required.

Requirements

A Degree/Higher Diploma/Higher Certificate in Animal Science/Science or related disciplines, with at least 2 years’ working experience in the handling and management of farm animals (such as fish, sheep, poultry, and/or cattle).  Fluency in English and Cantonese (preferably in Putonghua) is required.  Experience in laboratory work associated with animals (including support for teaching and research) would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
