Veterinary Microbiologist (at the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar/Assistant Registrar) in the School of Veterinary Medicine [Ref. E/215/09]


Duties

Manage and operate the daily activities of the microbiology section within the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) of the School; perform microbiology tests on primarily companion animals as well as small numbers of farm animals, horses, aquatic species, laboratory animal species, and exotic pets for the VDL; participate in the laboratory’s quality assurance program to maintain profession competency, continued professional development, customer education, validation studies and staff training; and perform any other duties as assigned.

Holiday and weekend rotations are required

 

Requirements

A Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent registrable in Hong Kong, and postgraduate qualifications in Veterinary Microbiology with substantial working experience in a diagnostic laboratory.  Excellent written and spoken English; supervisory, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills for veterinary diagnostic and laboratory issues; and ability to work independently as well as with laboratory teams are required.


Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.  The appointment might be under a subsidiary of CityU.   Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
