Legal Counsel (at the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar/Assistant Registrar) in the Legal Counsel Office [Ref. D/165/09]

 

 

Duties

Due to business expansion, we are now looking for an experienced lawyer to join our Legal Counsel Office.  The appointee will assist and support the Head of Legal Counsel Office to provide a full range of legal services and advice to the University in all major areas of University operation, especially institutional governance, general corporate commercial matters, research contracts, intellectual property and licensing, and operations in Mainland China.  Major responsibilities include drafting and negotiating contracts, reviewing University policies and regulations, liaising with external lawyers in managing litigation cases and representing the University in legal proceedings, advising the University Council, working closely with the University administration on risk management and good governance, and performing any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A solicitor admitted to practise in Hong Kong with at least 6 years' post-qualification legal experience, either specializing in corporate and commercial laws or covering a broad and extensive range of areas of law.  Previous experience in handling commercial transactional works, general corporate compliance works and/or PRC transactions would be an advantage.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua) are required.  Outstanding academic and professional credentials, a collaborative and client-enabling approach to legal advising, experience in advising on risk management and familiarity with the higher education setting are definite advantages.

Candidates with less experience or lower qualifications may be considered for a junior position.  Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and housing benefits (where applicable).
