Chief Technical Officer/Senior Technical Officer in the Department of Neuroscience [Ref. C/668/09]

 

Duties

Responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of teaching and research laboratories in neuroscience.  Main duties include to:

  1. Serve as the technical lead to ensure the safety of operation, and the management of teaching and research equipment, and core research facilities;
  2. Prepare teaching materials and support laboratory practical teaching;
  3. Oversee the installation of new equipment and provide technical training on the use of equipment;
  4. Assist with equipment purchase and associated system/consumables and inventory control;
  5. Carry out administrative and compliance work, develop protocols and standard operating procedures;
  6. Maintain inventory of the departmental assets;
  7. Conduct risk assessments for the health and safety of users;
  8. Serve as the emergency contact person of the Department’s laboratories;
  9. Oversee the use and management of laboratory space;
  10. Supervise the technical team; and
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Shift duty and working on Sundays and public holidays may be required.

Requirements

A Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Science or related disciplines, with not less than 7 years’ working experience in university teaching and research laboratories.  Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); familiarity with neuroscience, bioanalytical and imaging instrumentation, protocols in the areas of molecular biology, system and cellular neuroscience are required. 

Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Senior Technical Officer.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
