Senior Technical Officer in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences [Ref. C/631/09]

 


Duties

Responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of on and off campus teaching and research laboratories in veterinary sciences; provision of high quality service and support to academic staff and students using the teaching and research facilities in veterinary sciences.  Main duties include to:

  1. Assist in the development and planning of teaching laboratories, including veterinary clinical skills laboratories;
  2. Prepare teaching resources for veterinary clinical sciences courses;
  3. Assist with equipment purchase and associated system/consumables and inventory control;
  4. Maintain the teaching and learning infrastructure to the highest standards;
  5. Assist the academic staff in carrying out teaching duties, developing teaching-related protocols and standard operating procedures;
  6. Monitor and enforce facility and laboratory safety diligently as the Departmental Safety Officer;
  7. Conduct risk assessments for the health and safety of users;
  8. Facilitate quality assurance and accreditation schemes;
  9. Coordinate applications for internal and external approval for issues related to veterinary sciences teaching;
  10. Manage the budget and perform other administrative duties;
  11. Supervise the technical team; and
  12. Perform any other duties as assigned.



Requirements

A PhD/Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine/Animal Science/Biomedical Sciences/Molecular Biology/Cell Biology/Infectious Diseases or a related discipline, with at least 3 years’ experience in a teaching, research or diagnostic laboratory.  Applicants shall be organized, flexible and attentive to detail.  Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) is required.  Experience in a clinical veterinary environment and in animal handling is desirable.  A Certificate of Competency issued by the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Division and possession of valid Hong Kong driving license are preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
