Senior Manager (Structural) (at the rank of Assistant Registrar) in the Campus Development Office [Ref. C/404/09]


Reporting to the Director and Associate Director of Campus Development, the appointee will play a key role in various capital, operation and property management projects from planning to implementation.  As a senior member of the Office, the appointee will also actively participate in office management and the institutional cultural development.  Main duties include to:

Duties

  1. Monitor the progress, safety and quality of works, and offer advice to resolve the structural design problems or problems occurring on site;
  2. Check and coordinate relevant drawings to ensure all structural works in compliance with the approved documents and drawings;
  3. Supervise contractors and their workers (directly or via the consultants) to ensure compliance with the statutory, safety and technical requirements and the University house rules;
  4. Provide advice and ensure good construction practice throughout the project planning and implementation;
  5. Coordinate amongst consultants, main contractor and specialist contractors, users and in-house units, and ensure records be properly maintained;
  6. Handle contract administration matters (including monitoring of project cost and related financial issues);
  7. Oversee the tendering exercises for employment of consultants and contractors;
  8. Ensure the rectification of defects be properly carried out; and
  9. Perform any other assignments.

 

Requirements

A good honours degree in Structural Engineering/Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering, with at least 15 years’ relevant experience (of which at least 5 years at senior management level).  Extensive experience in building development and large-scale building project execution in Hong Kong; being self-motivated and performance driven with proven management ability to complete tasks within tight schedules; good analytical and interpersonal skills; and high degree of commitment to the University are required.  Preference will be given to candidates with professional qualification of MHKIE/MICE/MIStructE and Chartered Engineer (HKIE/MIStructE), experience in government subvention projects and institutional environment, and substantial administrative experience in higher education institutions.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.


Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and housing benefits (where applicable).
