Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (Public Health and Environmental Microbiology) in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health and School of Energy and Environment (Joint Appointment) [Ref. E/272/09]

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health and the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong jointly invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of public health microbiology.  The position is part of the strategic development of both academic units to strengthen research and education related to microbiology.

Duties

The appointee is expected to pursue microbiology research in the context of public health and the environment. Research topics, including but not limited to detection, transmission, mitigation and/or control of infectious diseases, are of interests.  We welcome research that involves field observation, laboratory experimentation and/or theoretical modeling.  Candidates with a background in life sciences or engineering that fits the research theme are encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research programme and provide excellent teaching at all levels.  The candidate should be able to complement existing expertise both within and outside the two academic units.

Requirements

A PhD in Public Health/Environmental Health/Microbiology or a related discipline, with experience in studying public health in an environmental context.  Candidates should have demonstrable evidence of research success (including the ability to obtain research funding), strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively as a member of an academic team, and an ability to deliver courses in English.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
