Department of English

The Department of English is a leading centre for English studies in the Asian region, and has an international reputation for its research on English language and literature, creative writing and professional communication.  City University of Hong Kong is ranked among the top 100 universities for English Language and Literature globally, and the Department is entering an exciting new phase.

Duties

The appointee will work in one of the areas described above; and is expected to conduct quality research, teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, develop curriculum, supervise students, and undertake administrative and service-related activities.

Requirements

A PhD in related disciplines, with a strong research track record (relative to career stage) and broad university-level teaching experience.  Preference will be given to candidates with background in second language writing, English for academic purposes and related areas for post (1); research interests in cross-cultural, transnational, or Asian contexts, and/or background in creative writing for post (2); and experience in public relations writing, advertising copy writing and promotional writing for post (3).

The appointees will have the opportunity to contribute to research initiatives in these and complementary fields, and to join a team of highly productive and motivated scholars.

Candidates for Professor/Associate Professor are also expected to provide leadership in research, teaching and curriculum development.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
