Professor/Associate Professor in the School of Law and School of Creative Media (Joint Appointment) [Ref. B/157/09]

The School of Law has three goals: becoming a world renowned centre for research and teaching of law; equipping students with global knowledge, skills and perspectives; and establishing a trusted relationship with local and international legal establishments.  These goals are reflected in the composition of the faculty, the curriculum and enrichment activities.  The School has also developed special programmes for judges from Mainland China, including LLM and JSD programmes.   It has recruited excellent talents at all levels in recent years and these appointments are part of a strategy to enhance the School’s research performance and represent a determined effort to increase the size of faculty by recruiting high calibre staff.  It is the School’s goal to provide quality legal education for students and to broaden their horizons.  The School offers a broad range of degree programmes: LLB, JD, LLMArbDR, LLM and PCLL.

The School of Creative Media was founded in 1998 to nurture a new generation of interdisciplinary artists and creative media professionals for the creative industries in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and abroad.  Its internationally recruited faculty members are amongst the foremost artists and researchers in the field.  Students are trained across disciplines spanning computer science, visual arts and design, creative writing, cultural studies and digital technology.  Graduates have consistently demonstrated high employability, with over 90% now working as independent artists and professionals in the creative industries, film, television, advertising, publishing, gaming, media production and post-production.

Duties

Teach and supervise students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; ensure the courses to be properly geared to the needs of students; exploit opportunities for joint teaching at a more integrated and higher level; and conduct interdisciplinary research in Law and Creative Media. The appointee is also expected to take the lead in developing innovative teaching interactions and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between the Schools.

Requirements

A PhD in relevant disciplines with ability to undertake research and teaching in Law and Creative Media.  Candidates for the post of Professor should have an outstanding research record with a demonstrated ability to lead a sizeable research group of mid and junior level professors, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.  They are expected to strengthen the current research areas in the School of Law or the School of Creative Media

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
