Chair Professor/Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering [Ref. A/079/09]

Duties

Responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, course design and assessment; supervise student projects and other learning activities, including the coordination of part-time teaching staff and liaison with other departments and institutions; undertake research and other scholarly activities, including the development of new research directions; and carry out administrative work and other duties to facilitate the development of the Department.

Requirements

A good honours degree in the following disciplines and a PhD in one of the specialized areas:

Disciplines (specialized areas)

  • Architecture - architectural design, architecture practice, heritage and conservation, landscaping and sustainability
  • Building Services Engineering - electrical services for buildings, vertical transportation, open systems for building automation, intelligent building, building electronics, building energy efficiency, demand-side-management
  • Surveying - urban planning, real estate valuation, land management, facilities management, building design and appraisal
  • Civil Engineering/Construction Engineering and Management


Membership or potential membership of a relevant professional body, an all-round background in the specialized areas with some teaching/research experience are required. For the Architecture, Surveying and Engineering disciplines, relevant experience in the industry and/or institutions of higher education, and a good record of research and published work are also required. Candidates for the post of Professor and above should have demonstrated leadership in their specialized area, with a distinguished record of teaching, administration and research.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
