Content : Eight Legislative Council members were briefed on the latest housing development during their visit to the Housing Department today (Monday).

They were received by the Chairman of the Housing Authority, Miss Rosanna Wong, and Director of Housing, Mr Fung Tung and other members of Housing Department's senior directorates.

The legislators were shown a video tape on the development of Hong Kong's public housing from the 1960's to 1990's.

Miss Rosanna Wong then briefed them on the advancement of housing in Hong Kong, the structure of the Housing Authority and the relationship between the administration and the Authority.

She told the councillors that the Authority would keep up its work hard to achieve the aim of meeting housing demand for those in need and that there would be no letup beyond 1997.

Mr Fung Tung explained to the councilors the roles and areas of works of various divisions in the department. He also discussed with the visitors the housing problems in the territory, especially the increasing demand for public housing by new immigrants.

The councillors were also briefed by the senior directorate of the Department's operation, including the Long Term Housing Strategy, construction and allocation of public housing.

The group then toured the Applications Section in the Headquarters building ,including the priority service centre for the elderly, before moving to the Ho Man Tin South work site to see the mock-up flats of the latest "Concord" design of the Home Ownership Scheme.

The party then proceeded to the 37 000 square-metre shopping centre at Lok Fu Estate.

The visitors included Yum Sin-ling,Chan Wing-chan, Chan Wai-yip, Chu Yu-lin, Ip Kwok-him, Lee Kai-ming, Lo Suk-ching and Lee Wah-ming.
