Hong Kong is a safe city comparatively. However, it is always in your best interests to remain vigilant about your personal safety.
Student safety is our priority. The Global Engagement Office (GEO) constantly monitors world and region-specific events via news updates from foreign consular offices, official education agencies, immigration authorities, partner institutions, media outlets and other sources. Health and safety alerts and travel warnings are issued to students when necessary.
To enhance safety awareness among students, GEO also organises briefings by the police and other professional bodies during Orientation Week to inform new arrivals of the ‘Dos and Don’ts’ for ensuring a safe and pleasant stay in Hong Kong.
Be aware of deceptions such as telephone and internet scams! Fraudsters may pretend to be government officials (e.g. immigration, police, health department) or couriers, and ask victims for their personal information and money transaction. Please stay vigilant at all times! NEVER give out your personal information or transfer any money to a suspicious person or organisation. If in doubt, contact the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at (852)18222 for assistance.
