This course aims to help students become smart and responsible consumers. It provides students an in-depth understanding of human beings as consumers. Students will learn why we need and want things, how we buy, consume and dispose of things.

It will use both macro and micro approaches to understand the above-mentioned issues. The macro aspect involves economic, cultural, ethical and social factors. The micro aspect involves individual’s physiological and psychological factors. Students will reflect on their own attitude and behaviour as consumers. Being smart is about choosing products and services that are best for consumers themselves. Being responsible is about consuming what is best for the economy, society and the environment.

On top of lecturing key concepts and theories, real life cases and different media will be used to facilitate students’ discussion and enhance understanding.
