Perspectives: Working Papers in English and Communication
Perspectives, our on-line journal of working papers, is published twice a year by the Department of English and Communication, City University of Hong Kong. The journal contains papers written or co-written by members of the department. These have the status of work-in-progress and may appear in revised form in other publications. The authors invite comments and suggestions from readers.
Perspectives publishes work-in-progress by colleagues in two broad areas. First, we seek research work, in the forms of (a) papers-in-progress that are approaching publication quality (4,000 – 6,000 words) but on which the authors seek feedback via the internal review process before circulating their work more widely, and (b) research project outlines that stem from the conceptual phase of a research project, outlining in detail the background, rationale, literature review, and methods (3,000 – 4,000 words). This is particularly useful if authors wish to obtain feedback before submitting proposals to grant agencies. Second, we seek works related to pedagogy, which may include reports on current projects of special pedagogical interest, projects that are either being implemented within the Department or are in the conceptual phase. These should be sufficiently detailed, and conceptually nuanced, to be of theoretical interest and practical value to other professionals (3,000 – 4,000 words).
Manuscripts are solicited in broad research areas represented in the department, including discourse analysis, communication theory, socio-linguistics, applied linguistics, professional communication studies, TESL, teacher education, literature, media studies, and cultural studies.
