Analysis of Sentences

I. Simple Sentences

A simple sentence is made up of a subject-main verb combination (either or both of which may be compound).

A simple sentence can be very short, or it can be quite long. The following examples are both simple sentences:
  1. Time flies.
  2. The great prominence of the need for love and belongingness is illustrated by the pervasiveness of love-oriented themes in our literature and music.

Task 1 : Simple Sentences

Analyze the sentences below by marking the sentence parts as indicated in the following. Use this marking system as you analyze sentences throughout this worksheet.

  2. The most expensive prize will most definitely be our gold watch. The most expensive [S prize] [V will most definitely be] our gold watch.

    Note: make sure you insert ONE space between elements such as [...] [...].

1. Jane, Yoko and Brian are exchange students in our university.
2. The highly skilled and dedicated workers will have completed the construction project before March 15.
3. I gave him some money for his education and encouraged him to study hard for his future.
4. Some British generals considered the attack a mistake.
5. Changes to reservations or cancellations must be made at the ticket office at least three hours prior to departure of the original flight.
