Info for Part-Time Staff


Part-time staff can teach up to a maximum of 17 hours per week, with classes being assigned once the appointment has been confirmed.

Note that 17 hours is a university maximum; if you are teaching for another department in CityU, your total hours per week must not exceed 17 hours. Please bear this in mind when accepting work; often we do not know what hours you may be doing for other departments and it is not until all the paperwork reaches Human Resources Office that the problem becomes apparent.

If you have taught at the ELC before, you should be assigned courses that you are familiar with. If you have been assigned a new course, you are expected to attend the relevant induction meetings, where you can find out more about the course, meet other teachers and also take the opportunity to ask the Course Coordinator questions.

Part-time teaching staff are expected to carry out assessment duties as and when necessary, e.g. coursework assessments and exam invigilation. Part time teachers are paid for exam duties and inductions at the rate of 1 hour per course, plus one hour for every three weekly contact teaching hours.
