Learning & Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) Student Workshops
These workshops are specially designed to develop you in the areas of will, self-regulation and skills as suggested in the LASSI (Learning And Study Strategy Inventory) and to help you acquire the essential capabilities in learning how to learn so that you can become an expert learner at university and beyond. LASSI Staff Workshops
LASSI Staff Workshop New student enrollment is now underway and it is time for us to prepare ourselves for the coming semester. To help staff to become familiar with our e-learning environment and the compulsory LASSI survey for new students, we are organizing different workshops for you.
Faculty Orientation Programme (FOP)
The Faculty Orientation Programme (FOP) is organised in late August / early September each year for new academic staff.
During this programme, new colleagues have the opportunity to meet other new faculty and the senior management and to be brought up to date on the University's strategic areas education and research.
Active Learning in the Classroom Series
The Education Development Office (EDO) has a pivotal role to play in student learning, the professional development of academic staff, and e-learning initiatives, and has responsibility for bringing teachers and students together to develop effective pedagogy for enhancing student learning. In preparation for the implementation of the General Education (GE) curriculum as part of the 4 year degree programme, the Associate Provost (Academic Planning and Undergraduate Education) and the Education Development Office (EDO) have partnered to present a series of staff development opportunities during Semester B, 2008-09. The GE-TEACH sessions, begun last fall, will continue throughout Semester B. In addition, the EDO will be offering a series of workshops focusing on Active Learning in the Classroom, to assist in the design and development of new GE courses within the OBTL framework and to increase alignment with the recently approved desired characteristics of GE courses. Blackboard Instructor Training Workshops
Providing students and staff with educational technology tools to assist them in obtaining excellence in teaching and learning is a strategic goal of the University. The implementation of a unified e-learning platform at the enterprise required level using Blackboard is a commitment to this strategic aim. To achieve this aim, it is essential that staff members have the understanding and competencies for using the Blackboard system in their teaching. Consultation Sessions - make an appointment, or just walk in
Talk with our staff about your concerns, developing personal mastery of teaching skills, strategies for enhancing teaching and learning in the classroom, approaches in analyzing student learning capabilities, personal innovations in teaching or your personal beliefs about teaching.
Consultation meetings are private and confidential. You may choose to work on an individual basis or as part of a group.
