SG8001 Teaching Students: First Steps

The SG8001 (a one credit pass / fail compulsory course for research postgraduate studentsNote) – aims to prepare participants to undertake a limited teaching role, and provides an introduction to the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to begin teaching at university.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs)

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Describe the context for learning and teaching at City University of Hong Kong.
  2. Apply Outcomes-Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) approach in student learning.
  3. Utilize elearning tools in teaching.
  4. Deliver a high quality teaching and learning activity.

  1. The Committee on Research Degrees Candidature (CRDC) has approved that SG8001 will not be included in the calculation of CGPA. An extract of memo can be found here.
  2. All Rpg students are required to pass SG8001 before graduate, refer to Research Degree Programmes Admissions Handbook section 4.1.2.
