Goal Setting

Goal Setting involves setting specific, measurable and time targeted objectives. There must also be a realistic action plan to achieve the intended goal.

One of your important long term goals at CityU is, for example, to become a professional. Short term goals cold be, for example, to work on your weaknesses, as identified in your LASSI scores. The best and most effective way to set goals is to use the S.M.A.R.T method.

S.M.A.R.T stands for:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable / Achievable
  • Realistic / Results-oriented
  • Timely / Timetabled
GoalSetting

Using the S.M.A.R.T goal setting method, your goals (short or long term) will no longer be vague. From now on, you will set goals that are clear and precise.

In order to get specific with your goal, you should ask yourself these questions:

  • What will you do to reach your goal? Make a list of action steps you can take towards reaching your goal. This is an important part of your goal setting process because it gives you steps that you can follow to reach your goal.
  • Why is your goal important? Why is this goal so important and pressing that it can't be put off any longer? When you have a pressing need or desire, your goal will be much more important to you.
  • How do you intend to reach your goal? Take a look back at the list of steps you made earlier. Looking at these steps, how will you complete them?
