New Blackboard-based Bilingual Oral Journal for First-year Interpreting Students

Abstract

The project aims to actively engage first-year interpreting students of CTL2303 and CTL2304 in the oral bilingual journal assignment that is to develop their Chinese and English proficiency throughout the year. While during most of the semester a student has to submit five bilingual journals per week which are one minute of Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) recording immediately followed by one minute of English recording in tape or digital format, the project designs a Blackboard-based recording system that will widen the audience of the journal and enable students to conduct peer and self review of their work. Students can use the system to practice interpreting anytime and obtain feedback and reflection from there.
