Abstract

Due to the rapid growth in the global influence of China in the past decade, Putonghua, as the official language in China, has become more and more important. But lacking an "environment" is a major problem for anyone who would like to learn another language, such as Putonghua. Therefore, the aim of this project is to support the existing mainstream university courses by providing a better learning "environment" for the students, in both real (Putonghua Salon) and virtual (GoChinese) environments.

Through the Putonghua salon, which provides face-to-face individual and group counseling service and various modes of practice, students acquire a more intuitive grasp of Putonghua and expand their own learning goals and strategies.

Also, with the support of GoChinese, a language learning package fully integrated into the CityU Blackboard system, students will be able to take advantage of its ability to generate accurate Hanyu Pinyin and smooth pronunciation for Chinese words, sentences, paragraphs and passages. Students can immerse themselves in a virtual language environment to advance their listening and speaking skills.
