Establishing an interactive teaching environment to promote the Cross-Institutional Course Enrolment Scheme

Abstract

Many advantages including resources optimization, exposure widening and more interaction are perceivable for extending Cross-Institutional Course Enrolment Scheme (CICES) into undergraduate courses. However, the success heavily relies on how to resolve the critical problems on transporting a large group of students crossing campuses, and well plan in class scheduling. Due the difficulties to catch up tight scheduled classes when travelling in bad weather, a brand new course delivery strategy is necessary to facilitate further expansion of CICES in the seven universities. Various surveys will be conducted to review successful cases on remote teaching and learning. Then, a robust and cost effective real-time communication platform is designed that supports the implementation of dynamic learning pedagogical model to promote interactive learning. The platform design aims at providing an effective and simultaneous teaching alliance environment to multiple classes of students across the allied campuses, and is also a tool to facilitate the model in implementation. Teaching materials of the allied classes are delivered to each participating student via Internet. Students are stimulated to exchange ideas and share knowledge among participants from different institutes on real-time. Trials on principle evaluation and performance tests for both proposed model and technical issues will be planned and conducted. Significant benefits are not only limited to students, e.g. saving travelling cost, more flexibility in selecting CICES courses, but it also provides a real-time interactive environment to excite their learning initiative, and promote the task on active participation of class activities with fellow coursemates.
