On 2 August 2017, City University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PARKnSHOP, one of Hong Kong’s largest supermarket chains. The College has accorded food safety as one of its four major priorities (the others being infectious diseases, aquaculture and animal welfare) both for the College as well as its Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme, which begins this September and is Hong Kong’s first ever veterinary degree programme. The MOU will allow the College’s Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health and Department of Biomedical Sciences to work closely with Hong Kong’s food industry both in exposure for its students but also for research opportunities to tackle food safety issues that are so prevalent these days in society.
