Cabinet visits CityU’s cutting-edge fish raft

29 Sep 2015

On 21 September 2015, CityU’s President and Cabinet visited the City University Marine Fish Culture Facility (MFCF). Currently the facility has various grouper commercial production operations maintained by the State Key Lab for Marine Pollution (SKLMP) and the College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (CVMLS). Around 90% of the entire world’s aquaculture is produced in Asia with China itself producing over 60% of the world’s fishery products. The major outcome of the MFCF’s operation is to develop an achievable and standardised method to produce healthy fish sustainably. CVMLS’s research and development role at the MFCF revolves around husbandry, detection, treatment, prevention and control of fish diseases. Cataloguing infectious and non-infectious diseases that affect fish in the region and developing the best aquaculture practices to prevent them and produce healthy fish remains one of the main goals of our team.
