BA (Hons.) in Language Studies (BALS)

Programme Requirements (Five Specializations) for Students Admitted in/after 2006

60 Top-Up Credits for Associate Degree Holders

• This is a top-up programme for associate degree (AD) and higher diploma (HD) holders.
• In accordance with the academic regulations of the City University of Hong Kong for top-up bachelor degree programmes, the minimum number of credits required for graduation is 60.

  Four courses from the three constituent specializations form the common Programme core. They must be taken by all students in the programme.

A BA (Hons) in Language Studies Degree (Five-Specialization Curriculum)

• Subject to the Academic Regulations of the Univeristy, to graduate from this programme, a student admitted to the five-specialization curriculum in or after 2006 must have successfully completed:
  • 21 credits, at least 15 of which must be core credits, from one specialization,
  • 45 credits from courses (core and non-core) of the five constituent specializations (i.e. CH core, CH non-core, TI core, TI non-core, LX core, LX non-core, LT core, LT non-core, JP core, JP non-core, KR core or KR non-core),
  • At least 60 credits from the BALS programme (i.e. CH core, CH non-core, TI core, TI non-core, LX core, LX non-core, LT core, LT non-core, JP core, JP non-core, KR core, KR non-core, Others-JA or Others-KR).
  These credits must include all the 4 courses in the Programme Core.

A BA (Hons) in Language Studies Degree with a Specialization (5-Specialization Curriculum for Students Admitted in/after 2006)

• In addition to the above general graduation requirements, students registered for a specialization (which may be CH, TI, LLT, JP or KR) must have:
  • At least 42 credits from courses of the registered specialization, at least 30 of which must be from core courses of this specialization,
  If the registered specialization is LLT, then the 42 registered specialization (LLT) credits mentioned above must include at least 21 credits from LX and at least 15 credits from LT.
• Suppose a student is registered for a specialization AA. Let us call the other four constituent specializations BB, CC, DD and EE. Then, visually,
