Courses Offered to BALS Students (Three-Specialization Curriculum for Students Admitted in 2004 and 2005)

• To ensure that students taking full-time study load can complete the programme in two years (4 semesters), courses of the three constituent specializations (CH/TI/LLT) are offered on the basis of two-year cycles.
• Some courses of the three constituent specializations are not included in the 2004-06 and 2005-07 two-year cycles. (They may be offered by other programmes of the Department.)
• In the tables below, compulsory programme core courses are in bold type. They must be taken by all students of the programme.
• Courses are 3 credits each unless otherwise indicated.

1. Japanese and Korean Courses

   • We have included some Japanese and Korean courses in the BALS programme (June 2005).
   • These courses are offered and managed by the Japanese and Korean Minor programmes (and other programmes), not by the BALS programme management.
   • These courses may be used to account for the 60 credits of the BALS programme. However, it should be noted that BALS students must have at least 45 credits from the three constituent specializations of CH, TI and LLT.
   • Students may work for a Japanese or Korean Minor (subject to regulations of the minor programmes) by taking these courses (15 to 21 credits).
   • These courses are all 3 credit units each.
