Science and Engineering Fun Days (SEFD)
Objectives
It allows secondary school students to recognize the practical and interesting facets of scientific knowledge through lab tours and experiments. The objectives of the programme are to allow secondary school students to
- gain a deeper understanding of the learning environment and facilities of science and engineering departments in the university
- appreciate how modern technologies can change our daily life
- apply book knowledge into functional knowledge through laboratory exercises
About the Programme
The proposed event is to promote secondary school students' interest in science and engineering disciplines via hands-on experience of laboratory exercises. The event will be held for 3 days, offering numerous workshops in a range of science and engineering topics. Students are allowed to register for more than one 1-day programme. Each programme will comprise various components including laboratory tours and laboratory sessions. Academic staff and student mentors of the College of Science and Engineering at CityU will be responsible for the programme. Every student who has successfully completed a 1-day programme will be given a certificate.
Target Participants: S4 - S7 students
Period: 22 - 24 July 2009
Fee: HK $100/1-day programme* (Including lunch)
Registration Deadline: 3 July 2009
(There is quota for each workshop, and the places will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.)
* Students who have financial difficulties (e.g. under Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme) may enjoy the fee waiver by sending the personal information and choice of workshop(s) as stated on the Application Form together with a recommendation letter from the principal of your secondary school to the following address:
