Who to Apply?
Non-local exchange students, who do not have the right of abode in Hong Kong and wish to enter Hong Kong for attending full-time exchange study programme for not more than one year at degree or above level, must obtain a student visa or an entry permit from the Immigration Department of HKSAR Government before coming to Hong Kong. For details, please refer to the website of Mainland and External Affairs Office (MEAO)

| Any one entering Hong Kong as a visitor shall NOT be allowed to register as a student at any educational institution in Hong Kong. Exchange students should submit their visa applications as soon as they have received our acceptance letters before entering Hong Kong. |

How long will it take to obtain a Visa?
It will take about 4-6 weeks to obtain a student visa or an entry permit. Failure to submit a complete application will result in delay of processing. Participating students are strongly advised to apply well in advance.
How to Apply?
International students who have been accepted to come on an exchange at CityU can choose to submit their application for entry visa (a) to the nearest Chinese embassy/consular office in their place of residence OR (b) to the HKSAR Immigration Department via our Mainland and External Affairs Office (International and Non-local Students) of CityU which can serve as studentsˇ¦ local visa sponsor. If students opt for Method (b), they MUST go over the procedures given in the MEAOˇ¦s Website on Visa.
For Mainland exchange students, they are required to be sponsored and to submit their application to the Immigration Department by the corresponding educational institution in Hong Kong. In other words, CityU has to sponsor and submit visa applications on behalf of Mainland exchange students. Details are also given in the MEAOˇ¦s Website on Visa.
