Credit Units

Courses offered by CityU are organised on the basis of credit units defined in terms of student work. To earn one credit unit, students are expected to spend about 40-50 hours of student work during the semester. In most cases, this notional student work input can be related to contact hours. As approved by the University Senate, one lecture hour or one tutorial hour per week for a semester requires student work sufficient to earn 1 credit unit; and one laboratory hour per week for a semester requires student work sufficient to earn 0.5 credit units. These are summarised below:

Each course has been assigned a "level" to indicate the degree of academic difficulty associated with the course. Undergraduate exchange students are recommended to choose courses at Levels B2, B3 and B4 specified in each course syllabus. However, the academic system of CityU may vary from those of exchange studentsˇ¦ home universities. When making their study plans, participating students should seek academic advice from the advisors of their home universities or from CSE exchange coordinators.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites are requirements that must be fulfilled before a student is able to register for a particular course. Note that these might include educational or other achievements gained before entry to CityU, e.g., related prior knowledge or relevant work experience. We shall keep individual students informed if they select a course that they have not yet fulfilled the prerequisites.

Precursors

Precursors to particular courses are not mandatory requirements, but students are advised to complete precursors before taking such courses.
