Focus: Integrating word processors with other software.

Our New Focus

Nowadays, word processors like Word and WordPerfect are really powerful. Both of them provide spreadsheet and publishing functions in different scales. In fact, they are a lot more than just a word processor. Despite the convenience these new-age word processors offer, most office automation software suite producers like Microsoft and Lotus are trying hard to strengthen their suites' integration power. Being able to integrate, and better still, being able to incorporate other software packages brings together all the best features from various software. From the users' point of view, it gives great flexibility and a working environment they have always dreamed of. It is our focus this year to introduce to our members on how WordPerfect and Word can be integrated with other common software like PowerPoint, Excel, Email, Databases and how their office chores can be made easier or even more interesting.

Our New Format

In order to further improve the atmosphere of our users' group meetings, we shall take on a new style this year. In each meeting, we shall select one or more of the following topics:

1. What's New ?
   Introduce new features in common word processors, mainly Word & WordPerfect, which are helpful to users in their daily work.
   

2. What's the Problem ?
   Using Case Studies to help members to learn how to approach, identify and solve common word processor problems. Members will need to analyze the case step by step instead of the spoon-feeding approach as before.
   

3. What's the Secret ?
   Give usage hints and tricks to members which are normally not covered in staff courses.
   

4. Watch Out !
   Draw members' attention to common mistakes and pitfalls in word processing.
   

5. Which Way? Which One?
   Compare similar functions in different products, and compare different approaches to a task. The aim is to guide our members to pick the right tools and use them in the right way.
   

   
   

   Our Next Meetings

   The followings are the highlights of our forthcoming meetings:
   

   • Sending word processor document as E-mail.

   • Using Outline.

   • Making PowerPoint shows from word processor documents.

   • Using Form Letters.

   • Including a spreadsheet in your document.

   • Sharing your documents under Win95.
