Grand Opening of the Multimedia Laboratory in CSC

Horizontal Rule [DEC 96]

Annie Yu

Need some space and the right equipment to perform Multimedia on a PC? If the answer is "yes", the newly established Multimedia Laboratory (Room Ceres) in the Computing Services Centre (CSC) is just the place for you. It is now opened for everyone in CityU and individual bookings are available via the Terminal Booking System. The laboratory is now equipped with 20 sets of powerful PCs with configurations as shown below:

A new set of Windows 95 system has also been set up for supporting these PCs. Unlike the previous version which retains most files on the server, the new version installs the whole system on the local hard disk in order to enable you to update and configure the system freely. A variety of CD-ROMs and head phones are also available for loan from the Service Counter. CD-ROM titles cover multimedia productivity tools such as sound edits, training materials on multimedia and multimedia courseware on various disciplines. This list of CD-ROM titles is constantly reviewed and expanded. You are encouraged to give suggestions on adding new useful titles.

Having this laboratory is only the first step in going multimedia. If there is a high demand, eventually all of the existing PCs in the CSC's terminal areas will be upgraded accordingly in order to fulfil our users' needs.
